Frank Polese founded Polese Company in
1991, as a production seal frame manufacturer serving the micro-electronic
packaging community. Through its exposure to this customer base Polese
Company undertook a material development program to manufacture Copper
Tungsten. After an intensive two year program, Polese Company introduced
a near net shaping process to manufacture copper tungsten heat sinks
in 1995. This approach was unique in the industry because it achieved
an unparallel homogeneity in its microstructure which offered its
customers the most advanced Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (CTE)
matching in the industry. Polese Company grew rapidly from this novel
approached and by 1999 it had become largest producer of controlled
expansion-high thermal conductivity materials and products in the
United States.
In the year 2000 Polese Company leveraged its premier position in
thermal management to enter the packaging markets by acquiring Advanced
Packaging Concepts of Vista, California. By integrating multi-layer
co-fired ceramics with its thermal management materials, brazing and
plating capabilities Polese Company developed a broad product line
in packaging with a strong focus in high heat and high power applications.
Today, Polese products are used in a variety of applications such
as wireless infrastructure, internet infrastructure, military, aerospace
and industrial applications.
In January 2003 Polese became part of the Plansee Family. Plansee
is the world's largest refractory metal producer with locations worldwide.
This synergistic merger has already resulted in the introduction of
a new thermal management material made from the lamination of copper
sheet on a novel metal matrix core. This laminate material developed
in Austria yet fabricated and plated in San Diego combines the strength
of both organizations in a single market. In September 2006,
as part of a corporate wide re-branding focus, Polese Company officially
became Plansee Thermal Management Solutions.
Looking
forward, whether it is in the area of thermal management or advanced
packaging, PTMS will continue to focus its energies and talent to
identify the future needs of the industry and our customers, while providing solutions to ensure
continued growth. |
